Year: 2016
Genre: Biography, Drama and Family
Conclusion: 4/5
I have not come across any of Mira Nair’s work before but thought this was fantastic. Both David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o give standout performances. It is a film where I cared about the characters and believed in them all. This film was filmed in Uganda and also South Africa. The actress Nikita Waligwa had been suffering from a brain tumour so Mira Nair organized medical treatment for her in India. Sadly Nikita died in 2020, aged only fifteen. Also the choreography made me feel like I was actually there and also gave me a feel of what it is like living in Uganda. I really loved and enjoyed watching this film. At the end of the film, there is actual footage of the actors with the real life people that they played.
