The only thing that I would say about this film is that it is very long. You need to give yourself about 4 hours. It is one of the greatest Classics that there is. This is one of David Lean’s greatest achievements. There are scenes in it where nothing happens and lots of filming of just the scenery. Just the scenery itself is worth watching the film for. The music was amazing and really well composed. When this first came out film critics tore it apart. They didn’t seem to like it. The recreation of Moscow on a Spanish studio lot took 18 months to achieve. At the Academy Awards is 1966 this won 5 Oscars. They were for Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium, Best Cinematography, Color, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Color, Best Costume Design, Color and for Best Music, Score – Substantially Original. At the Golden Globes also the same year it won 5 Awards and they were for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Motion Picture Director, Best Motion Picture Actor – Drama, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.
