Year: 2017
Genre: Drama and Family
Conclusion: 4/5
Based on the New York Times bestseller. This film stars Jacob Tremblay who first made an appearance in the film Room (2015). I very much enjoyed Julia Robert’s performance although she didn’t have a lot of material. I enjoyed seeing Owen Wilson. Loved the cameo from Mandy Patinkin! Overall I thought that all the performances were very good. As the film progresses I like it how you get to see the story from each individual’s perspective and that it isn’t all about Jacob Tremblay’s character. Jacob’s prosthetic make-up, took an hour and a half to apply. There is a scene where Jacob Tremblay’s character is riding a bike, this apparently is the same bicycle that Elliott is seen riding in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). I very much enjoyed this film and I have to say how moved I was after. Just some of the themes this touches on are bullying, friendship and courage although the most important one is empathy.
