A feel-good film! It is a film that will make you laugh plus also cry. I did find it very moving in parts. I love Kristin Scott Thomas and think she is amazing. I have enjoyed everything that she has been in. I am not really that familiar with Sharon Horgan, but again thought she was brilliant. In this film we have two really strong female leads. I thought that the script was well written and focused a lot about what it must be like for these military wives to be at home waiting and also what it must be like for the men also who go out to fight. Also very well directed by Peter Cannaneo who directed the film The Full Monty (1997). This choir was the first Military Wives choir of 75 such choirs across the UK to be set up.
Dear Beth I hope you are well and have had, or are having a great Christmas. Thanks for the new series of reviews, much appreciated and read in full. If you fancy going to the cinema at any time please let me know ? I am sure we would be the only ones there but we can socially distance and wear the masks. I wanted to ask you if you have seen two films ; 1. Phantom Thread and 2. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom PT is a film I watched whist I was in Spain recently and I found it very uncomfortable. The synopsis is a Ladies dressmaker ( Daniel Day Lewis ) takes in a girl he fancies and behaves extremely badly. Dr Kermode raved about it and even chose it in his Films of the decade. I would value your opinion. The second one is on Netflix and is the last performance of Chadwick Bosman it also stars Viola Davis who is the Black Bottom !!!! Oh sorry politically incorrect please don’t tell Sarah. Please let me know Best regards

Dear Steve,
Lovely to hear from you! Hope you have been keeping o.k. Yes, I would love to go to the cinema. I will let you know if and when something decent comes out that is worth seeing. I have seen Phantom Thread and do remember really enjoying it. I do understand that it made you feel uncomfortable. I thought that Daniel Day Lewis gave a fantastic performance and I also enjoyed the musical score in it. I have not seen Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom yet but will watch and review it as soon as I can. It is a shame that is Chadwick Bosman’s last film. He was such a great actor.
Keep in touch,
Beth
