Conclusion: 2/5
Based on the much loved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I was really looking forward to this but I could not get into it. I found it really slow moving. I have seen several adaptations on the tv that I have found really emotional but I have to say that with this it didn’t move me at all. I found it really disappointing. Julie Walters was just playing her usual role while Colin Firth basically has a walk on part. He didn’t exactly break sweat. The only one that put some effort in and gave a fantastic performance was the young girl played by Dixie Egerickx. I also think that the main problem was that the garden itself had no magic to it like it should have. I have no idea why but the film has been released two years after being filmed. Why it then took so long to be released I don’t know. I think it would have been better as a little mini tv series for the BBC on a Saturday night than a full feature length film.
