Based on a Jane Austen novella, “Lady Susan”, first published in 1871, which uses a name from Austen’s other novel “Love and Friendship”. I know at the time of the release of this film it had really good reviews. Readers might disagree with me but I have to say that I was rather disappointed with this film. I don’t know if I have missed a vital ingredient or will need to go back and watch it. I didn’t think it was funny and felt that the script was on the rather weak side of things. Also I didn’t like it how at the start of the film it introduced all the characters and felt it didn’t work well and wasn’t a good introduction to the film. I felt that the direction was rather poor. I couldn’t engage to get to like any of the characters. I didn’t find it engaging in anyway. Actress Sienna Miller was originally cast in the lead role but dropped out. Kate Beckinsale then replaced her. The two things I did enjoy were the costume designs and I also got a lot out of the all the locations that they used which were all filmed in Ireland. On the BBFC website it states about this film that “no material likely to harm or offend”.
