The Stoning of Soraya M.

THE STONING OF SORAYA M.

Review: The story takes place in 1986, at the time Khomeini is coming into power in Iran. An undercover French journalist is travelling through the village when his car breaks down. He is soon approached by local Zahra, who then reveals to him the cruel and inhumane punishment of her niece.
Director: Cyrus Nowrasteh
Actors: Shohreh Aghdashloo, Jim Caviezel, Mozhan Marno, Navid Negahban, David Diaan, Parviz Sayyad, Vachik Manhassarian and Noor Al Taher
Year: 2008
Genre: Drama
Conclusion: 3/5
This film is a fictionalized adaptation of Freidoune Sahebjam’s best-selling novel centering on a true-life tragedy. The only criticism I have is that it is such a sincere and shocking film, that I do think that the acting could have been much better. Could have been better directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Watching this though does make you think what is going on in Iran and how many other people are suffering. I felt that the musical score was used a bit too much. It also wasn’t the right sort of music to use for a film like this.
