There have been many adaptations of A Star is Born but I have not seen the other films so I cannot compare this to them. The first one was made in the 1930’s, 1950’s and then the last one which was the 1970’s. To think that Bradley Cooper has directed this is quite incredible considering he started off his career in all The Hangover (2009, 2011) films. I found him to be really convincing and I believed in his character. Apparently Bradley Cooper spent months to change his voice and to get it that low. He tried to get it exactly like Sam Elliot’s voice. Also to prepare for his role he was taught to play guitar by Lukas Nelson, son of Willie Nelson. The pair hung out in Cooper’s basement almost every night for a year. To think that he has directed, starred and written the screenplay for this is so hard to believe. He has done such a fantastic job and who would have thought it. I have heard that Clint Eastwood was originally attached somehow to the film but then dropped out. It would be a very different film indeed if Clint Eastwood was attached and went through it. I did enjoy the first half of the film more than to the second half. In the middle I did find they didn’t quite know what to do and felt there were endless scenes that were not really needed. Lady Gaga’s character I felt was more real in the first half. It was lovely to see her with no make-up on, she was rather spoilt at the end the more she became famous. Also with Lady Gaga you already know what she can do on the stage so to it really came as no surprise. It is not just about the music but about the chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga as well. At the Academy Awards in 2019 this won and Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song). At the Golden Globe Awards in 2019 this won Best Original Song – Motion Picture. At the Bafta awards also in 2019 this won Best Original Music.
