Lawless

LAWLESS

Review: A true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition era Virginia. The three brothers are but to the test against the nation’s most notorious crime wave.
Director: John Hillcoat
Actors: Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Dane DeHaan, Chris McGarry, Gary Oldman, Lew Temple, Marcus Hester, Bill Camp, Alex Van and Noah Taylor
Year: 2012
Genre: Crime and Drama
Conclusion: 3/4
This is based on a book by Matt Bondurant called The Wettest County in the World. Shia LaBeouf is fantastic and I have never seen him act so well before. I thought the soundtrack worked really well with songs by Captain Beefheart and the Velvet Underground. I felt that Jessica Chastain didn’t really have much to do other than watch and observe. It was a wasted part for her really. Her part wasn’t really allowed to flourish. Originally Amy Adams and Scarlett Johansson were cast but the film was shut down. Aventually Jessica Chastain got the role. Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman both appeared in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and also Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011).
