Whitney: Can I Be Me

WHITNEY: CAN I BE ME

Review: Tells the story of Whitney Houston’s extraordinary life, career and her tragic death.
Director: Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal
Actors: Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Bobby Brown and Cissy Houston
Year: 2017
Genre: Documentary and Music
Conclusion: 3/5
I have to say that I knew very little about Whitney Houston’s career or her personal life. I have always enjoyed hearing her songs and have always known that she was an iconic singer. This documentary is painful to watch as it describes how everything just fell apart in every aspect of Whitney’s life, mainly as a result of drug abuse. This did remind me of  Amy, the 2015 the documentary film about the tragic death of Amy Winehouse. The most interesting aspect of the film is an interview with Whitney Houston’s personal bodyguard. He confirmed that the Kevin Costner film The Bodyguard was a very accurate portrayal of what actually went on.
