This is the first of a franchise of spin-offs to Star Wars. This is a different movie to all the other Star Wars films. It is much darker physically and more heavy. I don’t think that they could have done this film without Felicity Jones. Her performance is just outstanding. She never attracts any attention to herself and she is a great presence on screen. The cast is well chosen as you have got Felicity Jones (English), Forest Whitaker (American) and Mads Mikkelsen (from Denmark). I did feel that there were a few scenes in which the director rushed and could have focused more on some scenes. Some scenes they didn’t properly explain. Because this is a stand alone film it means that it can have its own beginning, middle and end. I didn’t actually notice at the time but now thinking about it this is the first Star Wars film that didn’t use scrolling text at the beginning of the film and also the first film in which no one utters the name “Skywalker”. The script was very well written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. This is a very exciting film especially towards the end of the film as this is when we see the big explosions. The CGI was amazing and congratulations to all the ILM team who worked on it. It did very much feel that it fitted in with the first Star Wars film A New Hope (1977).
