Review: A grieving family takes in a mysterious stranger and claims to have been in the army with their deceased son. They welcome him into their home but a series of deaths start occurring.
Director: Adam Wingard
Actors: Dan Stevens, Sheila Kelley and Maika Monroe
Year: 2014
Genre: Action, Crime and Thriller
Conclusion: 3/5
So, you thought you knew Dan Stevens? Think again….and forget Downton Abbey. This thriller just shows what a good actor he is. The girl in this, Maika Monroe acted really well. The only problem is I could see how ridiculous the whole film is. This sort of thing has been done before. You know what you are getting. It is a fun movie and it does keep its pace up. There is never a time when you are bored. It keeps your attention. It was very well edited as the original rough cut was over 20 minutes longer than the final theatrical cut. The ending to this makes you almost think that there could be a sequel. Mark Kermode’s headline for his review for this film was “from Downton to downright dangerous”.
