A Long Way Down

A LONG WAY DOWN
A Long Way Down
Review: This is a story of four lost souls who decide to end their lives on the same night, New Year’s Eve. They form a dysfunctional family to help one another to keep on living.
Director: Pascal Chaumeil
Actors: Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collettte, Imogen Poots, Aaron Paul, Sam Neil and Rosamund Pike
Year: 2014
Genre: Art House, Comedy, Drama and International
Conclusion: 3/5
Based on the 2005 novel by Nick Hornby. Very strong performances especially from Pierce Brosnan. One of his best films. His strongest film recently has been Love Is All You Need (2012).  It is a very hard subject to get right and to make a film with the subject matter. After watching this it would be very interesting to read the book and to see how it compares. Johnny Depp bought the movie rights before the book’s initial release. This is the second film that Toni Collette has been in where a book has been adapted into a film by Nick Hornby, the first one being About A Boy (2002). The themes that occur in this are suicide, angst, depression and promiscuity. There are some scenes in this that I found very touching and moving.
