Director: Bill Condon

Year: 2015
Genre: Art House, Crime, Drama and International
Conclusion: 5/5
An excellent performance from Ian McKellen. You can watch him for hours in this and never get tired. We see Bill Condon once again direct Ian McKellen (Gods and Monsters). You can see in this film how much Ian McKellen is enjoying making this film and you can also see how well he gets on with the director. Both Laura Linney and Hiroyuki Senada put everything into their performances. It is lovely to see no special effects. Such an unusual film. There was a lot of going backwards and forwards in time in this but it was very well done. The script is very well put together. Very witty in some places. The little boy in this reminded me a lot of when Thomas Brodie-Sangster was starting in his acting career. This film was originally called “A Slight Trick of the Mind”, after the Mitch Cullin novel it was based on. Ian McKellen took a course in beekeeping with the The London Honey Company prior to filming. Since watching this I have done nothing but think about it. It grows on you more day after day.
