Jack Nicholson’s best film. Very disturbing. Based on a novel by Ken Kensey. Excellent performances by everyone. Many of the extras in this film were actual mental patients. The author of the book sued the producers of this film because it wasn’t being done in the same way as the novel. This is on Barry Norman’s list of 100 Greatest Films of all time that he produced at the start of 2012 in the Radio Times. In 1976 it won 5 Oscars. They were Best Actor in a Leading Role-Jack Nicholson, Best Actress in a Leading Role-Louise Fletcher, Best Director, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Adapted From Other Material. In 1977 it won Best Actor-Jack Nicholson, Best Actress-Louise Fletcher, Best Direction, Best Film, Best Film Editing and Best Supporting Actor-Brad Douriff. At the Golden Globes in 1976 it won Best Acting Debut in a Motion Picture-Brad Douiff, Best Director-Motion Picture, Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Motion Picture Actor-Drama-Jack Nicholson, Best Motion Picture Actress-Drama-Louise Fletcher, Best Screenplay-Motion Picture.
