OLIVER!
Review: Oliver is a nine year old orphan boy. He runs away from the orphanage and gets mixed up with the wrong crowd.
Director: Carol Reed
Actors: Mark Lester, Oliver Reed, Shani Wallis and Ron Moody
Year: 1968
Genre: Drama, Musical, Family and Classics
Conclusion: 4/5
Thoroughly enjoyable film. This is one that the whole family can watch and enjoy. I found it did start to get a bit boring towards the middle but it soon managed to pick up again. There are a few scenes in it that could have been shorter. Apparently Mark Lester did not do his own singing for this film and was dubbed by someone else. Michael Caine auditioned for Bill Sykes’ role. This is an all time classic that everyone should watch. In 1969 at the Academy Award it won 5 Oscars. They were for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Director, Best Music-Score of a Musical Picture (Original or Adaptation), Best Picture and for Best Sound. Onna White got an Honorary Award for her outstanding choreography achievement. The same year it also won 2 Golden Globe Awards. They were for Best Motion Picture-Musical/Comedy and also Best Motion Picture Actor – Musical/Comedy.
