ROSE OF NEVADA

Review: A mysterious fishing boat returns to a village 30 years after vanishing at sea, along with its crew. Three men take it out on the sea once again hoping for a better fortune. After one voyage, they return to the harbour, only to find that nothing is as they remember it to be.
Director: Mark Jenkin

Year: 2025
Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi and Thriller
Conclusion: 4/5
This is directed by the same director who worked on Bait (2019) which I enjoyed very much. This film is shot silent on a clockwork camera with all the sound and dialogue post- synchronized after. The soundscape is very impressive and a very important aspect of the film. You will never be able to find another film like this it is so unique. Watching this it does remind you how dangerous the fishing industry is and how uncertain the life of a fisherman is. Fantastic performances from the two leading actors George MacKay and Callum Turner. Great to see Edward Rowe and Mary Woodvine back working with Mark Jenkin. Before becoming an actor Francis Magee worked as a fisherman. Mark Jenkin used three filming locations in Cornwall. They were Mullion, Newlyn and Hayle. The film blends time-travel fantasy with social realism. The main themes are the importance of family and community. A film that you will still be thinking about several days after watching it.
