THIS FILTHY EARTH

Review: This is a tragic tale of rural passion and survival. A story about two sisters Kath and Francine whose lives are disrupted by two men. Kath’s boyfriend is very volatile while Francine embarks on a dangerous love affair with a guy called Lek who offers her the possibility of escape.
Director: Andrew Kotting
Actors: Rebecca Palmer, Shane Attwooll, Demelza Randall, Xavier Tchili, Dudley Sutton, Ina Clough, Peter-Hugo Daly, Bill Rodgers and Robert Hickson
Year: 2001
Genre: Drama
Conclusion: 4/5
If only there were more films like this one. Based on a novel by Emile Zola. Andrew Kotting is pure genius. This film opened to rave reviews although the director himself has not really been able to break through. He has worked on a lot of films since this one but none of them have really been recognized. Fantastic performances from the cast although I have to say that it is Dudley Sutton who steels the show. This isn’t an easy watch.
