The Phantom of the Open

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN

Review: This tells the heartwarming true story of Maurice Flitcroft who managed to gain entry to the 1976 British Open Golf Championship, despite never playing a round of golf before.
Director: Craig Roberts
Actors: Mark Rylance, Ian Porter, Tommy Fallon, Sally Hawkins, Jake Davies, Christian Lees, Jonah Lees, Mark Lewis Jones, Johann Myers, Nigel Betts, Afsaneh Dehrouyeh, Tim Berrington, Neil Edmond and Amy Alexander
Year: 2021
Genre: Comedy, Drama and Sport
Conclusion: 4/5
This did remind me a lot of Eddie the Eagle (2015). I don’t know how well this story is known to people but I certainly have never heard of the story. I found this to be a very funny and charming little film. It is about one man’s fairy tale. There were times where I did tear up. Everything that Mark Rylance has done I have really enjoyed. I think he is a fantastic actor. I also think the same about Sally Hawkins and think she is great. One aspect of the film I did enjoy was at the end they showed little clips of the real Maurice Flitcroft.
