Parallel Mothers

PARALLEL MOTHERS

Review: A Spanish drama about the lives of two women, Janis and Ana, who bond in unexpected ways after giving birth the same day. This is also about the buried secrets from the Spanish civil war.
Director: Pedro Almodovar
Actors: Penelope Cruz, Milena Smit, Israel Elejalde, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, Rossy de Palma, Julieta Serrano, Ainhoa Santamaria, Adelfa Calvo, Inma Ochoa, Julio Manrique and Chema Adeva
Year: 2021
Genre: Drama
Conclusion: 3/5
I have to say that I think Pedro Almodovar is a fantastic director but this is not one of his greatest films. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed with it but I think it could have been a better film. Even though there was a story in this about the Spanish civil war I felt there wasn’t enough of the story to get me emotionally moved. I felt it was all rather rushed and felt like I didn’t care enough about any of the characters. I felt nothing was really explained sufficiently. It would have been better to make a separate film about the Spanish civil war completely. There were two big stories going on at once and for me it didn’t work. I very much enjoyed Penelope Cruz’s and also Milena Smit’s performances. I also enjoyed the musical soundtrack in this film.
