Nearly 19 years after the release of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) now comes The Crystal Skull. Let me start of by saying one of the things I did struggle with about this film is the title and do find it a bit of a handful to say. It is too long for my liking plus it is not memorable or easy to say. Other titles that had been considered were “The City of Gods”, “The Destroyer of Worlds”, “The Fourth Corner of the Earth”, “The Lost City of Gold”, and finally, “The Quest for the Covenant”. I also think that because we were all looking forward to this film for so long that I do find it a bit of a disappointment. This also brings nothing new to the franchise and have seen all this action before. It has got to be the weakest of all the Indiana Jones series. Apparently three different scripts were written and produced over 15 years and have to say that the script was very poorly written. Sean Connery was approached and was asked whether he wanted a little cameo but when asked he stated that retirement was too enjoyable and turned it down. The final budget for this film was $185 million; this is, as of 2020, the most expensive movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Out of all the Indiana Jones films this is the only one not to receive any Oscar nominations.
