Conclusion: 4/5
This film did remind me of the film Kramer vs Kramer (1979) and also Annie Hall (1977) especially with the long distance relationship. This reflects on a large part on the director’s own experiences when he divorced the actress Jennifer Jason Leigh in 2013. I think Adam Driver carried the film all the way through and this was the best acting I have seen him do. Scarlett Johansson also gave a terrific performance. Watching both of the actors I totally believed in their characters. There were some scenes in this where I chuckled to myself. There is a scene in this where Adam Driver punches the wall. He did this 15 times due to multiple takes. This is the 4th time that Adam Driver has worked with Noah Baumbach. At the Academy Awards in 2020 this won one Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Laura Dern). At the Golden Globe Awards in 2020 this won one award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Laura Dern). At the Bafta Awards in 2020 this won one award for Best Supporting Actress (Laura Dern).
