A very funny and touching coming-of-age film in so many different ways. This film is actually Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiographical account of life as a young Rolling Stone reporter. Kate Hudson shines in this film and gives an excellent performance. Written and directed by Cameron Crowe. Brittany Murphy, Maggie Gyllenhall, Anna Friel, Katherine Heigl and Natalie Portman all auditioned for the role of Penny Lane. Kirsten Dunst also auditioned for and almost got the role of Penny, but Kate Hudson got the part. Both Jon Favreau and Jack Black auditioned for the role of Lester Bangs. At the Academy Awards in 2001 this won one Oscar Award for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen (Cameron Crowe). At the Golden Globe Awards in 2001 this won two awards.
