Effie Gray

Effie Gray
Review: A look at John Ruskin and his relationship between his wife Effie Gray and Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais.
Director: Richard Laxton
Actors: Greg Wise, Dakota Fanning, Tom Sturridge, Julie Walters, Emma Thompson and David Suchet
Year: 2014
Genre: Drama
Conclusion: 2/5
This film is nearly two hours and felt like it was stretching it a bit. An interesting story but there wasn’t really much to say about it. During the film there were lots of gaps in it and thought is was going to finish and then it started up again. Written by Emma Thompson. Great performances. John Ruskin came across in this as not a very nice character. I felt that his mum was a very controlling character. At the end of the film I would have liked a bit more history or just a few details of what Effie Gray then went on to do with her life. I have heard that this film was made a few years ago but met with legal problems.
