Only God Forgives

Only God Forgives
Review: Julian is a drug-smuggler who is respected in Bangkok’s criminal underworld. As if life isn’t complicated enough for him his mother urges him to find out and kill who killed his brother.
Director: Nicolas Winding Refn
Actors: Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas
Year: 2013
Genre: Action, Adventure, Art House, Crime, Drama, International and Thriller
Conclusion: 2/5
From the same director who did the fantastic film Drive. Both Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling have teamed up for the second time. Both very different films. Not much dialogue in this film. Script must have been really easy to learn! It is stated that Julian only speaks 17 lines throughout the whole film. Ryan Gosling just stares into space and looks moody for most of the film .I didn’t think that Kristin Scott Thomas’ character suited her. She said about this film that she herself finds the movie very disturbing and hard to watch. Luke Evans was originally cast in the lead role but dropped out. One film critic wrote ‘God might forgive Refn and Gosling for this mess, but moviegoers might not be so kind’.
