Review: A shocking true story of Philomena Lee who had to give her son up to the nuns for adoption when he was only a toddler. Martin Sixsmith meets Philomena and helps her trace her son in America.
Director: Stephen Frears
Actors: Steve Coogan and Judi Dench
Year: 2013
Genre: Biography and Drama
Conclusion: 4/5
This is a story that has never been told before. It will have you laughing and it will also have you in tears by the end. Even though this is a biography like so many films they have added a lot to the film to make it more interesting. Some people say that the nuns were really cruel to do what they did. I often wonder if the nuns didn’t do what they did who and what would have happened to all the children? You also have to remember that the world was a different place back then. Maybe everyone thought that they were doing the right thing. It is shocking to think that this is just one story of 1000’s of stories. Lots of people have now come forward with their own stories. Great cast and well directed by Stephen Frears. At the Bafta Awards in 2014 it won one award and that was for Best Adapted Screenplay.
