Review: This film focuses on President Lincoln’s final months in office.
Director: Steven Spielberg
Actors: Daniel Day-Lewis, David Strathairn and Sally Field
Year: 2012
Genre: Biography, Drama and History
Conclusion: 3/5
A very boring film although I have to admit Daniel Day-Lewis is amazing in this. For me I just don’t think that a lot happens. It could have been made shorter by half an hour. It was far too long. It is a film where you have to concentrate quite a lot because there is a lot of talking. When Daniel Day-Lewis was offered the part he turned it down and wrote a letter to Steven Spielberg. Leonardo DiCaprio convinced Daniel Day-Lewis to take up the role. It is unknown how he convinced him. It took the director about 12 years to research the film. Liam Neeson was chosen to play the part of President Lincoln but pulled out at the last minute. At the Academy Awards in 2013 this won 2 Oscars. They were for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and for Best Achievement in Production Design. Daniel Day-Lewis became the first male performer to win three awards for lead roles. Does this make him the best actor? Also in 2013 at the Golden Globe Awards Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. At the Baftas also the same year Daniel Day-Lewis also won the Best Leading Actor Award.
