Conclusion: 4/5
Brilliant directing by Bryan Singer. Kevin Spacey’s acting is amazing. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. The best acting I have seen him do. This film was shot on a budget of $6 million over a period of 35 days. When Kevin Spacey received the script he had to read it twice to make sure he fully understood it. At the Academy Awards in 1996 this won 2 Oscars. They were for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Kevin Spacey) and also Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. At the Bafta Awards the same year it also won 2 awards. They were for Best Editing and Best Screenplay Original. One film critic wrote ‘A masterpiece of the modern film noir genre, a terrific performance piece for everyone involved and an absolutely outstanding directorial effort’.
