Life of Pi

LIFE OF PI

Review: A story about a young man who survives a sea storm. He enters a life of adventure and discovery.
Director: Ang Lee
Actors: Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan and Adil Hussain
Year: 2012
Genre: Adventure and Drama
Conclusion: 4/5
Thought that the Visual Effects were incredible. Although I do not agree with 3D I thought for this film it worked really well. Even though this film is a PG I still think that the Bengal Tiger is quite scary for small children. Based on a book by Yann Martel. I cannot compare both as I have not actually read the book. I think that Suraj Sharma should have been nominated in the Academy Awards for Best Actor. People have not talked about him much. There are a few scenes that will make you laugh and also want to cry. I would have liked to have got to know more of his life in India before he and his family left. I liked the fact that the tiger was not one of these cuddly animals and the start of the film showed how fierce it is. Not all of the tiger shots are CGI. 86% is CGI while 14% is the real tiger. At the Oscars in 2013 it won 4 Academy Awards. They were for Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures – Original Score and Best Achievement in Visual Effects. At the Baftas also 2013 it also won Cinematography and Special Visual Effects. At the Golden Globes the same year it just won Best Original Score – Motion Picture. This is another great achievement for Ang Lee.
