The Tree of Life

THE TREE OF LIFE

Review: Jack is one of three brothers growing up as part of the O’Brien family in Waco, Texas in 1956. He has a contentious relationship with his father, but gets along with his mother. As a middle-aged architect he is looking back on his life, while also grappling with bigger existential issues.
Director: Terrence Malick
Actors: Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain, Tye Sheridan, Hunter McCracken, Fiona Shaw, Will Wallace, Brayden Whisenhunt and Joanna Going
Year: 2011
Genre: Drama and Fantasy
Conclusion: 3/5
All of the films I have seen of Terrence Malick’s I have enjoyed. One of them being Days of Heaven (1978). This isn’t the director’s best work although I do admire what he has done with the film. It is a very brave film that he has made. There are several scenes which I don’t agree with and found monotonous. It is a very long film standing in at 2h 19m. Mark Kermode quoted “The Tree of Life is a meditation on the nature of life, nature of nature and the nature of the afterlife”.
