Conclusion: 4/5
John Boorman has directed a lot of films over the years although I have to say that this is his best work. Whether or not it is because it is based on his own life therefore a personal project. Fantastic performances especially from Sebastian Rice-Edwards who plays the lead. This explores many themes but the two main ones are resilience and hope and the impact of war on society. At the Bafta Awards in 1988 this won 1 award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. (Susan Wooldridge). At the Golden Globe Awards in 1988 this won 1 award for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
