At the start of watching this film I wasn’t quite sure whether I was enjoying it but I found it got better as it went along. A towering Oscar-winning performance from Al Pacino. In preparation for his role he was helped by a school for the blind. During the filming Al Pacino would often remain in character off set. When Al Pacino was originally offered the lead role for this film he turned it down. Leonardo DiCaprio auditioned for the role of Charlie. The themes in this are loneliness, anguish and acceptance. At the Academy Awards in 1993 this won 1 Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Al Pacino). At the Golden Globe Awards in 1993 this won 3 awards. They were for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Al Pacino) and Best Screenplay – Motion Picture.
