Conclusion: 5/5
I thought this was a very entertaining film which involves a great deal of humour. I was fully engaged throughout the whole film. This is a very brave film to make. I thought that the two main actors Hugh O’Conor (the younger Christy Brown) and Daniel Day-Lewis were both terrific and they make us see what it is like for him through the character’s eyes. The themes this includes are passion, anger and determination. A film you can still watch today and enjoy. The late film critic Roger Ebert wrote in his review “The story of Christy Brown is one of the great stories of human courage and determination”. At the Academy Awards in 1990 this won 2 Oscars. They were for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Brenda Fricker). At the Bafta Awards in 1990 this won 2 Awards. They were for Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Ray McAnally).
