NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE

Review: Jonathan Harker lives with his wife Lucy in the idyllic town of Wismar, where he works as an estate agent. Jonathan is sent away to Count Dracula’s castle to sell him a house in Virna, where he lives. While dining the night at Dracula’s ghostly castle, Harker cuts his finger, causing a disturbing reaction to his otherworldly host.
Director: Werner Herzog
Actors: Klaus Kinski, Isabelle Adjani, Bruno Ganz, Roland Topor, Dan van Husen, Jan Groth, Rijk de Gooyer, Clemens Scheitz, Jacques Dufilho and Werner Herzog
Year: 1979
Genre: Drama and Horror
Conclusion: 5/5
By the time that Werner Herzog came to direct this film there was no longer an issue with the copyright so therefore Herzog could go back to the original novel and use the correct names etc. Klaus Kinski makes his role his very own and apparently had to spend approximately four hours per day in make-up. One thing I like about this film is that it keeps to the original story but Herzog makes it his own. Look out for his cameo! Werner Herzog once quoted that he feels that the original Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) is the greatest of all German films.
