NOSFERATU

Review: An estate agent is sent to arrange a house purchase but his client turns out to be Vampire Count Orlok.
Director: F.W. Murnau
Actors: Max Schreck, Gustav von Wangenheim, Greta Schroder, Alexander Granach and John Gottowt
Year: 1922
Genre: Drama and Horror
Conclusion: 5/5
Bram Stoker’s widow refused to grant F.W. Murnau the rights to Dracula. All the known prints and negatives were destroyed under the terms of settlement of a lawsuit by Bram Stoker’s widow. F.W. Murnau and his screenwriter simply changed the characters’ names and went ahead with the film. The film was banned in Sweden due to extensive horror. It wasn’t until 1972 when the ban was finally lifted. When this film was released the BBFC refused to classify this now-canonised gem. This is one of film director Guillermo del Toro’s favourite films. One of the first silent masterpieces.
