Embrace of the Serpent

EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT

Review: This tells the story of an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and his relationship with two scientists who work together over the course of forty years in search of a sacred healing plant.
Director: Ciro Guerra
Actors: Nilbio Torres, Jan Bijvoet, Antonio Bolivar and Brionne Davis
Year: 2015
Genre: Adventure, Biography, Drama and History
Conclusion: 4/5
I thought this film was really good. It did remind me of the film Fitzcarraldo (1982). The performances in Embrace of the Serpent are brilliant. Watching this you don’t feel as though you are watching a film. This is the first Colombian film nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Described by its creator as: “an attempt to build a bridge between western and Amazonian storytelling”.
