Conclusion: 4/5
This is a film which I was a bit worried about watching and didn’t think I would enjoy but how wrong I was. I loved every minute of it. Directed by Gareth Edwards whose last film was Rogue One (2016). This is written by Chris Weitz and Gareth Edwards. Chris Weitz also wrote Rogue One (2016), so second collaboration together. I love the use of the different locations especially Thailand. The VFX was added after they did the filming in Thailand but the whole thing feels completely real. I loved all the design work. I thought that the whole storyline worked really well although rather unusual. I love the musical score which in fact marks Hans Zimmer’s first scoring collaboration with Gareth Edwards. This film includes many themes such as redemption and sacrifice, human relationships, parenthood and morality, artificial intelligence and consciousness. I really think that this deserved an Oscar/Academy Award.
