Conclusion: 5/5
A fairly unknown Bong Joon Ho film. Each of the actors gives a very powerful performance. Right from the opening scene I could feel the tension and suspense which carried on throughout the film. I do think that this is a very Hitchcockian film. Apparently, it is believed that because of phonetic differences between English and Korean, both “Mother” and “Murder” are spelled the same when translated to Korean characters. Film critic Mark Kermode quoted about this film comparing it to other works of Bong Joon Ho “From the surreal opening – from which the fate, tragedy and madness of the subsequent narrative is subtly laid out.”
