I just want to say that this already grossed $26.1 million in its first Monday, more than any other Warner Bros. film, surpassing The Dark Knight (2008), with $24.5 million. I did find Barbie to be a very enjoyable experience. There were some funny jokes in this although I would have liked a lot more. The time does go very quickly. I can’t think of a much better actor who could have played Margot Robbie’s character. She was absolutely perfect for that role and steals the show. It is always a joy to watch Ryan Gosling who was faultless and is always willing to give anything a go. This is the second film based on a toy franchise to have Will Ferrell as the antagonist. The first one being The Lego Movie (2014). I did find there were elements in this that did remind me of the Toy Story films (1995-2010). I very much enjoyed the set design, and the use of colour in the whole production. All the songs were very enjoyable and entertaining. I also enjoyed all the dance sequences. This film explores themes of gender roles and also addresses themes of feminism and female empowerment. This is not a film for young children as it has brief sexual harassment and implied strong language. All the costumes that Margot Robbie wore I wanted for myself! At the Golden Globe Awards this won 2 awards. They were for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Song, Motion Picture. At the Academy Awards in 2024 this won one Oscar award for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song).
