SEVENTY ONE

Review: Gary Hook is a young disoriented British soldier who accidentally gets abandoned by his unit. This is followed by a riot on the deadly streets of Belfast in 1971.
Director: Yann Damange
Actors: Jack O’Connell, Sam Reid and Sean Harris
Year: 2014
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Thriller and War
Conclusion: 4/5
This film is very tense and gripping. There was so much going on that you felt like you were actually there experiencing it all. The camera work was fantastic. The script for Jack O’Connell wasn’t very long but you somehow didn’t notice. There was a lot of shouting going on but in a film like this you would expect that. Terrific soundtrack. The whole story was well handled as it must seem so real to people still who remembered or went through what happened at that time. Jack O’Connell has just won The EE Rising Star Award at the Bafta’s which he deserved. I hope that we see much more of him in the future. This is Yann Damange’s first theatrical film.
