ALL IS LOST

Review: A sailor gets into difficulties as he attempts to set sail across the Indian Ocean. He must fight to survive.
Director: J.C. Chandor
Actors: Robert Redford
Year: 2013
Genre: Action, Adventure and Drama
Conclusion: 4/5
Directed by J.C. Chandor who directed the fantastic film Margin Call. The character in this we don’t really get to know. When he is in trouble we don’t see any sort of flashbacks to his life at all. There is no mention of where he has come from or no mention of his family. When he is in most trouble we see him write a letter but we don’t see anything written down. Robert Redford has stated that the hardest thing about doing this film was constantly being wet all the time. This reminded me a bit of the film The Perfect Storm staring George Clooney. I can’t believe that an actor coming up to his 80’s can put himself through what he did. I could just watch Robert Redford for hours. It is hard to believe that just one man can carry this film by himself. I was completely fascinated and engaged by the acting and the story-line. I was on tenterhooks all the way through as to what was going to happen. Robert Redford is the only character in this and there is no dialogue. In spite of this the film captures your attention all the way through. At the end it leaves you wondering whether he survives or not. At the Golden Globe Awards in 2014 this won Best Original Score – Motion Picture.
