Conclusion: 4/5
One amazing performance by Matthew McConaughey. This is an actor that keeps getting better with his acting. I believe this is because he is getting better at choosing the right roles. It is great to see him in a proper role. He is no longer the guy who you see in poor rom-coms. You can’t fault his accent in this. It was very well done. I did feel like I cared about the boys and also Mud. It was all so real. You knew what was going to happen at the end but you somehow didn’t mind. The landscape and scenery were so amazing that it just made me want to go to the Mississippi. The production team hired over 400 locals as extras. It has several themes in this film. To name a few are love, friendship, trust, security and memories being created. You could say that the river represents adventure, unknown dangers and the promise of a journey to a world elsewhere. These are all good themes but the hard ones are betrayal and suspicion.
