Review: The story of the Trapp Family. Maria is a young nun in an Austrian convent. She regularly misses her morning prayers. The Mother Superior doesn’t think she is ready to take her vows just yet and sends her off to be governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp.

One of the most famous stores ever to have been made. This is a film that people claim to hate because they don’t like admitting just how good it is. They think it is cool to not like it. A very long movie. It is well over the two hours. The whole film is based on Maria Von Trapp’s 1949 memoir, “The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers”. The director was offered this role three times before agreeing to direct it. It is stated that Christopher Plummer did not enjoy working on this film but has stayed close friends with Julie Andrews. For this film Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer learnt how to play the guitar. At the Academy Awards in 1966 this won 5 Oscars. They were for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound, Best Film Editing and for Best Music, Scoring of Music, Adaptation or Treatment. At the Golden Globe Awards the same year it won 2 Awards and they were for Best Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy and Best Motion Picture Actress – Musical/Comedy. One film critic wrote about this film “Handsomely shot on location in Salzburg and expertly edited, The Sound of Music plucks at your heartstrings with clinical precision”.
